And here's my own little foray into the adventure of inviting people.
First, I posted the flier to my facebook timeline and invited everyone there to watch the live stream online. Then I started individually talking to people. I did invite ten people (and then a few more), and a few of the more interesting ones are posted below:
Stephen Clarkson--Stephen works in CS. He's very interested in business and economics, so I've bounced a few of my ideas about our chapter off of him. He was very interested in our book idea, and when I invited him (in person) he promised he would come and bring questions.
Jason Mavandi and Celeste Higley--A fairly tech-savvy couple I know, Jason is especially interested in social media and new things. For example, he was the first person I knew on Google+. I invited both of them in person and gave them a flier. They already responded that they can't attend because they are involved in institute that night, but they said that if a video of the event is posted afterward, they will watch and comment later.
Professor Lyall Swim, of the Marriott school of business--Professor Swim is actually the person who introduced me to ted talks originally, so I reciprocated by personally inviting him to our own ted-ish event. He is a business professional and likes to keep up with the changes in business, so I think he'll find our presentation relevant.
Andrew Draper--Math and computer science education and generally interested in this kind of stuff. He may not be able to make it, but he said he will likely watch the feed.
I'm still waiting on responses from several of my email friends, and I invited several people from my Mcom class, as well. I was sure to email everyone a pdf attachment of the flier, so they have the details.
